Coach Brittany, RN Saving Lives With Exercise and Nutrition

I am a Registered Nurse, CrossFit Coach, and Personal Trainer. And now, under the training and guidance of Healthy Steps Nutrition, I am a Nutrition Coach. This triad can be huge for helping people create sustainable habits that can impact their health and fitness with long term success.  What does that mean? I can help guide you to change your life.

As an RN, I care for patients battling chronic disease and addiction. Addiction comes in many forms, the most commonly thought of being drugs and alcohol, uncommonly thought of is food.  Food is an addiction and its highly abused and not talked about enough inside the hospital. In the hospital we can treat you with medication, we can stabilize you and fix the immediate needs you have, with medication.  Too often we send you home with a new little blue pill that you’re more than likely not even sure how it works. We are putting bandaids on major wounds that need fixed. Nutrition is the fix. Nutrition is the foundation of our health and wellness.  Without fixing the actual problem and educating and helping guide people to a healthier way of eating, we will always see you coming back through the hospital doors.  

As a CrossFit Coach I get to help people through exercise.  After nutrition comes exercise. The American Heart Association recommends at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise 5 times a week or at least 30 minutes 3 times a week at a more vigorous intensity exercise to reduce the chances for heart disease. Heart Disease is the leading cause of death in the United States.  Think about that, something that we control ourselves, is the leading cause of death. We are killing ourselves. Coupling proper nutrition with exercise can exponentially decrease your chances of death at an early age. Here at Brickhouse CrossFit we focus on nutrition, the foundation of fitness, and movement that is sustainable, exercise that we can do everyday for the rest of our lives.  There are plenty of gyms around that have great competitive goals, or strength goals, or just giving you that insane work out that the image of The CrossFit Games and games athletes have put in your mind is what you need everyday. What sets us apart? We want to save your life. We want to create long lasting change through healthy habits and through sustainable movement. We are more than a CrossFit gym, we are a Fitness Facility. In the sickness-wellness-fitness model by Greg Glassman, he writes “Done right  fitness provides a great margin of protection against the ravages of time and disease.” And that is our aim here at Brickhouse. 

I am proud to take on the role of Brickhouse Nutrition, Nutrition Coach.  I have all the tools I need to help people, to help save lives. I have committed my life to helping others, there’s nothing in the world that brings me more joy. To be able to help at the foundation, the base of the pyramid, is an amazing opportunity.  It is my goal to help people lower their blood pressure, decrease their A1C, create healthy habits, help guide people to a long term healthy life. I am fighting chronic disease through exercise and nutrition, with the goal of you never having to visit me at the hospital.
